(because it won't leave my head since the last test/bragging rights? wrongs?)
two main types of reasoning, so far: you have
synthetic aposteriori (from empericism; uses inductive reasoning) - new knowledge based on sensory experience
analytic apriori (from rationalism; uses deductive reasoning) - old knowledge not based on sensory experience
immanuel kant took a look at both of these, said "hey. guys. you both have very valid ways of figuring things out. but you're both stopping short. Here, here's an entirely new way..." and so we get
synthetic apriori (pure reason) - new knowledge not based on sensory experience
a feeble attempt at diagraming pure reason:
noumena is the thing in and of itself, which comes from above the line (transcendental forms/synthetic apriori) to below the line (emperical). we view noumena through sensory experience, which form raw unordered sensations. through intuition (forms of space and time), we produce phenomena, which is an image of the thing, and through the twelve categories of human understanding, we form ideas, concepts, theories, etc. about it.
