the misconception that scent can trigger a memory, when really all it does it trigger the emotion that then set off said memory

even so, when i smell lavender, i think of snow flurries. when i smell copper, i think of skin. when i smell sweat, i think of moving feet, and when somebody who's been drinking rum talks to me, i think of fruit. and when i smell tide on my clothes, i think of the song nantes by beirut. and then there's this sickly sweet lotion that definitely triggers an emotion caused by the memory of someone's hands holding mine, leading mine.

but it's sunday, and i just did laundry, so all i'm thinking about it is the lovely sounds of nantes. good night.
