Every day/every time
I get to see you/see you
I am flooded
I am nearly/uncontainable
I finally know what it means
when poets say they feel like bursting
I am paint flying everywhere
every color
I am birdsong/and everyone's a poet, y'know
everyone who feels like bursting
like the mouths of waves/like birds of prey
You put your arm around my shoulders and grip me so tight a shiver runs through you.
I am developing a healthy summer glow for the first time in a decade.
I see hawks above my house and I call
and they fly away.
They once sang sympathy.
There used to be nightingales at my window.
I touch your face
right next to me/across the river
I can feel your breathing against my body/I can only imagine your sleeping breaths/sounds
Don't detach
You have nothing to prove to me
Just be/be with me
