innocence is a rare and beautiful gift; it's what we find sparkling in a child's eyes and glowing in their face. it's the one characteristic that's completely untouched by the world, pure....it's breathtaking.
the practices of society say that innocence must be abandoned in favor of teaching the child the ways of the world. parents that keep and shelter their children from the world are reprimanded. their child is called "ignorant". i can see why someone would want to keep their child that way; the one creature that is not born of the world and its amenities.
unfortunately, every child has to leave his mother's arms and venture into the polluted, gray, stark realm of reality. without being taught or told what to expect, they can easily fall prey to the demons of this world.
i'll be leaving in the fall. it will, of course, be the longest time i've stayed away from home, and pretty soon afterwards, i won't get to call it "home" anymore. i've been taught the things of this world, but the only thing i learned from my parents was "The Talk." that, and divorce is one of the most painful things to do to a child.
Jesus said that until we become like children, we shall not enter the kingdom of heaven. He didn't mean to become childish, but rather, childlike. innocent. trusting. pure. loving.
i try to hold on to these things. i try to keep my body a clean temple, and let only freshwater flow from the spring (most of the time). i can hold on to this, too. in a way, i can survive in this world being pure.
why people love children....they are love, in human form.
